The Tender Land

 William Kent Krueger, 2019

A story about four orphans who travel the Mississippi River in a canoe on a life-changing odyssey during the Great Depression.  Two brothers, their best friend and a broken-hearted little girl steal away from a Native American School, looking for a place to call home.  During one summer in 1932, the four children cross paths with others who are also adrift as they make their way to St. Louis.
