Suite Francaise

Irene Nemirovsky, 2006

Nemirovsky, a young Russian Jewish emigre, completed two of five planned book sections before she was sent to Auschwitz in 1942. “Storm in June,” describes the panic and confusion accompanying several Parisian families' exodus to the countryside as the Germans enter Paris. “Dolce,” shows life in a German-occupied provincial village. This is a novel about the devastation of occupation.
