Where the Crawdads Sing

Delia Owens, 2018

Set in the coastal swamps of North Carolina from the 1950s through 1970, Owens' lyrical tale centers on Kya Clark, abandoned by her family as a girl and now surviving in the wild.  She teaches herself to be a naturalist.  Owens is a wildlife scientist and award-winning nature writer.  She has written what she calls a "socio-biological thriller, interweaving past and present, addressing both Kya's childhood and a murder in alternating chapters.  A fascinating read.
